The Pat Amato invitational would mark the beginning of Championship season for the Pomona Cross Country teams.Historically a fast meet, this was probably the last time the teams would get to let it all out before having to think about their place, rather than their time.

The boys started off the day looking very strong. 6 of the 7 Varsity runners would run personal bests time with 5 of them running a sub 6 minute first mile. Senior Malachi Blaszkowski set the tone with a PR of 17:31 placing 97th. Following Blaszkowski would be Cody Ohlson also running a personal best time of 18:18 for 148th. Rounding out the scoring 5 for the boys, all in personal bests would be Crisitan Buckner (18:57, 192nd), Thomas White (19:30, 225th) and Salvador Vialpando (19:31, 226th). The boys team would place 28th out of 41 competing teams. Also running a personal best would be Dylan Vanderveen in 20:03.

The girls followed suit, running fast in the wake of the boys race. Leading the way was the duo of Mary Mansfield and Rylie Dix. Mansfield would place 170th in a personal best time of 22:38 while Dix came in at 22:45 for 181st place. Following the lead girls would be Ashley Basset in 24:10 for 213th. Rounding out the scoring would be Amanda Gurule with a huge personal best of 24:20 for 218th place and Christine Mansfield (25:39, 234th). Running another massive personal best would be Melia McSherry in 25:43.

The teams turn their sights to the League Championships this coming Thursday at Clement Park. The change in philosophy of running fast time to beating specific teams will be a nice change for the team.
