The Pomona Cross Country team travelled North this weekend to attend the Centaurus Invitational held at Waneka Lake in Lafayette. In a stark contrast to last weekend, the weather was cool for the athletes in this rare Saturday morning race.

Starting the day was the Varsity girls and they were led by Junior Rylie Dix. Dix placed 79th in 23:07. Following Dix was a string of personal best times for Freshman Ashley Bassett (108th, 24:42), Sophomores Mary Mansfield (111th, 24:52), Allyssa Mansfield (121st, 25:35), Christine Mansfield (128th, 26:26), Freshman Melia McSherry (137th, 29:21), and Senior Alyona Filatova (139th, 29:27). The Varsity girls would place 17th out of 19 complete teams at the invitational.  The JV girls would not be out done, boasting their own personal bests. Sophomore Amanda Gurule would run 27:56 to make the Varsity squad in next weeks meet, while Freshman Ashley Ewing and Alyssa Repasy would run personal best times of 32:31 and 33:07 respectively.

8 out of the 10 girls would run personal bests this week after what Coach Swartz called an “up-week” in terms of training and training intensity.

The Varsity boys were next up as the weather and the racing started to heat up. Leading the boys this week would be Sophomore Cody Ohlson, placing 124th in a time of 20:33. Following Ohlson would be Andrew Repasy (130th, 20:42), Cristian Buckner (135th, 20:52), Max Ramos (139th, 21:02) and Brendon Antill (158th, 21:58). Antill and Thomas White would run personal bests, White placing 161st in 22:13. Rounding out the top 7 for the boys would be Will Graser (168th, 24:05). The Varsity boys would please 24th out of 25 complete teams. The boys owned a 1 – 5 split time of a 1:25, which would be a season best so far.

The JV boys also took to the course and would be led by Sophomore Sean Oscar in 22:28, Jaren Lopez would run a personal best time of 24:01, as would Jacob Ulibearri (29:19) and Jorden Medina (29:34).

The team is back at it on Friday, September 9th for the Heritage High School Liberty Bell. A team and “time” friendly meet.
