LAST WEEK RECAP:
Liberty Bell Invite RECAP
There is nothing better than finishing the weekend being over 9 minutes faster than ever before! Crossing the finish line first this Saturday at the Liberty Bell Invite was newcomer Levi Russell in 20th place with a blazing 16:50! Russell’s time marks the first sub-17 effort by a boy this season and puts him in the top 15 fastest Pomona XC Boys in history. Beau Bennetts, blazing Beau, sped through the course again this year with another LIFETIME best of 17:26 placing Mr. Bennetts 39th. This makes him one of the top Sophomores in 4A this season (20th) and in the top 10% across the entire state (86th/900+) for sophomores. Following Beau, the duo of Zavin Capps and Joseph Delgado-Yoshimura came across with another set of LIFETIME bests. Zavin, having now dropped his best time by an impressive 1 minute and 4 seconds over the last two weeks, came through in 113th in 19:33 as Pomona’s 3rd runner. Joseph, completely skipping the 20-minute 5k, has dropped to 19:50 with a 116th place finish for his first ever sub-20 effort.
Following Joseph but starting just 3 minutes after the boys, Jordain Stutzman was fulfilling her destiny by breaking the 20-minute barrier as the 13th place finisher! Becoming Pomona XC’s 8th fastest girl in history, Jordain nearly brought her coach’s to tears with this mid-season triumph. Abigail Chavez, whether she wants to admit it or not has entered the scene. A symbol to us all, and just a little over 2 years since she began running high school XC, Abigail crossed the finish line 74th in 22:31, 9 minutes and 2 seconds faster than when she first set out on this journey 2 years ago.
In the late morning, the gritty JV boys set out to get theirs after watching the varsity teams’ crush. Led by Adrian Rosales’s bid for a varsity spot, 3 out of 4 boys achieved LIFETIME bests, and the group collected 5 minutes and 57 seconds of personal best time! Adrian started it off with is giant leap over the 22-minute region and ran 21:56 good enough for 56th place. Calvin Lorenz, achieved a season’s best at 24:12 in 82nd place finishing as the JV teams #2. Hector Diaz Vazquez breaking a big 25-minute barrier, ran 24:56 good enough for 90th place. Cem Onan, with the biggest leap of the weekend, placing 105th, lowered his best time by an incredible 4 minutes and 4 seconds to reach 26:51!
